...and other things I learned from Star Trek.
Seriously, while gawking at her has a calming effect, let's face it, she's bad at her job. It doesn't take years of school, or telepathy to tell when a Klingon is angry. They are ALWAYS angry!
And what happens when she deals with Ferengi, whose minds are resilient to her powers? She can't tell Picard a damn thing of what they want(money).
You know all of those fancy bypasses and overrides and emergency overrides that were installed into your ship? They are really some wiseass engineer's idea of a practical joke. All they need are spring loaded snakes to spring out of the consoles to get the point across to the crew who keep wondering why the they never seem to work.
What beats Nazis? Klingons with Bat'Leths.
If the captain doesn't know your name before the mission begins, starting a living will right away.
Am I going anywhere with this? Sort of not really. Star Trek is great for what it is and was, but after watching the current Battlestar Galactica, most other scifi shows are pretty light hearted. But I do hope one day the Trek franchise will rise again.

Abby has passed.
It became very clear since my last post that things were not getting better and her already diminished ability to walk was even worse. We did the humane thing and had her put to sleep. She will be cremated and ashes spread over Stonehearst, which was one of her favorite places. I have a feeling we'll still be cleaning up all of her hair for years to come. She sheds quite a lot.
It will be different without her around, but in the end it was the right thing to do. She was always very active in life, and these past few days her mood started to get worse since she could barely move on her own power.

My dog is dying.

Abby, my Australian Shepherd of 13 years(half as old as me) is dying.
It started Wednesday. She had some trouble walking, but we didn't think of it as anything overly seriously, maybe she just pulled a muscle in her leg, but we arranged an appointment with the vet for Thursday to be safe.
Thursday morning she couldn't wait and went into a seizure. The vet said it is most likely a brain tumor that just went acute. She maybe has just a few months to live. The vet gave her phenobarbital(anti-convulsion medication) and prednisone(a steriod to help offset the lethargy and hind leg weakness of the phenobarbital), It is so difficult to watch her like this. My mom even had to create a makeshift pulley for her back legs.
Friday looked semi-upbeat. She was able to move a little by herself again, and she didn't seem to be in any pain at all.
Today wasn't so good. She pee'd on the floor suddenly 3 times so far. According tot he papers from the vet, this is a major bad sign. I just broke down after each time. I know she won't last much longer. I love that damn dog so much. Whenever I wasn't feeling good, she could always make me feel better, but now I can't do anything for her. I can't pat her without barely holding back tears, while she just has that grin on her face like nothing is wrong at all.
As it stands right now, we may have to put her down this week. I don't know what to do, I feel so weak and helpless.
And shit, I am supposed to be on vacation this week.

Still alive and kicking.
Long absence there. I'll try not to do it often. So lately I have been recovering from a lingering cold. I am the type that doesn't get sick too often, but when I do, it stays with me for a while.
Somehow I managed to have a weeks worth of vacation time I need to use, so I am off from work for a bit. Oh, and I got a promotion too. My new official title is 'Provisioning Coordinator'. I am not entirely sure what that means, other than a nice raise. Well, I do know I will be provisioning things. Specifically phone things. Same hours, so it is all good. Huzzah for me.
I also have an Xbox 360 now. I got it as a gift to myself or the promotion. Well, that's the story anyways. I bought it the day before I even found out I got the job. Shhhh, don't tell anyone!
That's all for now, folks!
